I have been a slacker, not posting every day. I am going to start posting every day again, and attempt to go back and catch us up ! Thanks for sharing in my miracles every day!

My best friend

Lately the boy has taken to calling Daddy his "Best friend." He wakes up each morning asking where his best friend is. When Daddy gets home from work, he will exclaim "my best friend, I missed you!" It is adorable. Here, Daddy was making juice and the boy insisted on helping, because his best friend needed him. I love my boys!

Rain rain go away

And bring snow instead! Still a warm winter, though we did have some rain last night and today. I loved the way the raindrops looked on these blossoms. The poor vegetation around here is so confused. It's been warm and sunny enough that the trees and flowers think it is spring. But, we could still have some freezing weather that would cause damage to those beautiful, albeit early, blossoms.

Snow Angel

The boy poured his toys on the floor and the laid down in them. I asked what he was doing, and he said "making a snow angel." He LOVES snow, but we haven't had any this winter. It has been warm enough to go outside without jackets even. But, the boy wanted to play in the snow today, so he improvised!

I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world....

...Heavenly Father created for me. My home is in the most beautiful place. This picture was taken in the parking lot of Costco. I love that I didn't have to travel any where special to get a gorgeous picture.

Snug as a bug...

The boy has not taken naps in a while, but here again today he managed to catch some zzzzzz's in an uncomfortable looking position. Maybe he is getting ready to grow? I don't know how tall he thinks he needs to be, he is already in the 100th percentile for height and 95th for weight. He looked so cute I almost hated to wake him, but even growing sleepy boys need dinner!

Didn't know you could buy those at WalMart!

Today the boy had a playdate at a friend's house. It was unusually warm, and the sun was shining. Afterward, we went straight to WalMart, were the boy immediately fell asleep in the back of the cart, using my purse for a pillow. How that boy managed to sleep like this I will never know. He slept the entire time, not waking up until he was transferred back into his car seat.

Robot boy

As I mentioned previously, the boy loves to play with boxes. He put this one on his head and announced that he was a robot. He kept running into things, so Daddy cut eye holes out for him. Then, the boy wanted arm holes. And the fringe on top is hair. He wore this box around for a long time. When I told him it was bed time, he said he had to sleep in a garage because he is a robot. I don't know where he comes up with these things! =)

Sweetie Momma

The boy helped me frost these cupcakes for dessert tonight. We had friends over for dinner, so we wanted to do something special. While we were frosting, the boy kept eating the conversation hearts. I told him he had had enough and to stop eating candy. He went to grab another candy, and I said to stop. He handed it to me and said "this one is for my sweetie momma." Awwwwwww. I HAD to let him eat one after that! The cupcakes were a big hit!

Eternity

A few days ago was a very special anniversary for our family. It was not our wedding anniversary, it was what we call our "forever" anniversary. It was the anniversary of the day that our family was sealed together for time and all eternity in the Seattle temple. To celebrate our forever anniversary, today our family went to the temple. We have never before been able to get a picture of our family outside the temple because it is always pouring rain. Today there were blue skies, so we had to try! The boy loves the temple. He gets very excited when he sees the angel "Ononi" on top. We had a lovely day together, and got home late but happy.

Where my money at?

Today, the boy got a birthday card in the mail from his great grandparents. It had a $10 bill in it and he was so excited. He ran off to play with his money, and set it down somewhere. When I asked him where it was, of course he didn't know, so we had to search for it. When Daddy found it, he gave it to me for safekeeping. Later, we went to the grocery store and as we pulled into the parking lot, the boy said "Momma....where my money at?" Which of course made me giggle, because he sounded like an old film noire thug. Rest assured, his money is perfectly safe with me!

I did it!

I was making french fries for dinner. These are frozen, on the cookie sheet waiting to go into the oven. The boy said he was "too hungry" and had to eat one. He then tried to bite one in half. I explained that they were frozen and couldn't be eaten until they were cooked. About a minute later the boy said "Momma I did it!" I asked "did what?" to which he opened his mouth and showed me a half chewed FROZEN french fry. He actually enjoyed it and ate two more. Strange kid.

Flava Flave!

My dad sent me a box of stuff from his house of things he found from when I was a kid. These very 80's pink plastic sunglasses were in there, along with this little necklace. The boy wore them both for HOURS today. We were listening to the "pants on the ground" song from American Idol, and the boy was dancing all around. It was hilarious! And, if you don't know what pants on the ground is, watch the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMwhl4IrPNc

Read to me!

The boy LOVES to read. He picks out stories every day and wants to read them. Here he was showing Daddy where Tigger and Pooh are. He likes to point out letters and tell us the sounds they make. He amazes me, I know he will be reading on his own fairly quickly. Like mother like son I suppose!

Hush little baby

Today the boy was laying on my belly singing and talking to baby sister. He sang the "Transformers" theme, and "gunk gunk." Then he talked to her, told her he loved her, and just rested his head to feel her kick. It was such a wonderful experience.

Sunday, January 17, 2010

My little bum

Quite often, the boy likes to pretend to sleep under newspapers. I don't know why, but he has done it several times. Today I asked "where are you?" and he stuck his hand out and said "no pictures." Finally, I asked "are you practicing to be a bum?" He said "a bum?" and I said "yes a bum." He peeked out and then proceeded to think REALLY hard. Finally he asked "my heinie?" What a crack up.

Boy in the box

The boy has every toy he could ever possibly need. Yet, as holds true for generation upon generation, he'd rather play with the box. The boy saw this box in the garage and said "My daddy said I could play with that, remember?" (Two more of his current favorite phrases...my daddy said...and remember?) So in came the box. The boy went and got his kitchen step stool and dove in (of course head first!) He stayed in that box for a good hour, playing, rolling around , scooting it across the floor. When I said it was time to get out of the box and get ready for bed he said "I want to sleep here." I, of course being the logical grown up type said "you can't sleep there." To which the boy replied "But my daddy said...remember?!?!"

Hush little baby

We are trying to teach the boy to be gentle and how to hold/touch a baby in preparation for baby sister's arrival. He was doing a pretty good job, supporting her neck, and asking for help before picking the "baby" up. We talked about how he must always have a grown up near if he wants to hold baby, and how we don't rough house or do anything to hurt baby. He was being tender and sweet the entire time. When we were done, I told him he could go put the doll away with his toys. He said "ok Momma" and grabbed it by one leg and chucked it across the room! ....I guess we'll need to go over that again. =) (P.S. We finally took the tree down today!!!)

Sweet singer boy

Today the boy was lying stretched out on the couch, singing his little heart out. He was singing "Frosty the Snowman" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." When I told him Christmas was over this year, he said "I'm getting ready for next year!" What a sweet heart!

Mr. Will Smith Potato Head

Today the boy was playing with his Mr. Potato Heads. He made this one, and proudly proclaimed, " I made 'dat. Myself." (Which is his new favorite thing to say.) Well, being a child of the 90's, I immediately thought this looked like Will Smith in his "fresh prince" days. I started "rapping" the theme song..."Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down. I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there, I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air. I was chillin' out maxin, relaxin all cool, shootin some b-ball outside the school...." and so on. Now my hubby thought this was hilarious. The boy thought I had lost my mind. But really....can you look at that and tell me it doesn't look like Will Smith?? =)

Just Chillin'

Today, the boy climbed into bed with me and cuddled. When I got back from brushing my teeth, he was lying like this. I asked him what he was doing and he said "Just chillin' Momma." Just Chillin'?!? Who has this kid been talking to? I am pretty sure I have never said "just chillin' " to this child. He cracks me up. As long as he never tells me to "chillax" we'll be all right.

When we're helping we're happy!

The boy LOVES to "help" clean. Whether it's sweeping the floor, or washing the dishes. He always volunteers "I help!" Today he told me "I do it all by myself." He was quite serious about the whole matter. For FHE we talked about how by helping each other we strengthen our family. We sang "When we're helping we're happy" and "My Eternal Family." He favorite part of "When we're helping we're happy" is the line that says "we love to help Mother, for we all love her so." He always adds "so much" at the end. It is too cute. He makes me so happy.

His hero

The boy is always so happy when Daddy gets home from his Army drill weekends. Daddy has only been gone 2 days, but he gets a hero's welcome home every time. The boy gave Daddy the biggest hug today, almost knocking him over. It makes me so happy to see them together.

From my front porch

It is hard to show just how beautiful my town is here. It was overcast today, but I could see the snow covered Olympics. There really is no place I'd rather live.

The miracle of...produce?

I say that this fresh, organic produce is a miracle, because for it to be on my table after being picked today is a miracle. I didn't have to plant it, water it, cultivate it, or pick it. Yet, I have organic produce picked this morning on my table tonight. I don't have to have any knowledge of farming, a green thumb, or big fields. All I have to do is drive to the store and pick out what I want for dinner tonight. I think it is a miracle that we are able to buy whatever we want, practically 24/7. I am thankful for the farmers who work so hard for this miracle on my table.

Independence

Today, the boy went to a birthday party for his bestest buddy. He insisted on wrapping the present himself. It amazes me how independent he is. (Admittedly sometimes it makes me crazy...) But, once he sets his mind on something, he is GOING to make it happen. He cut the paper and taped it all up himself. It fascinates me how smart and clever he has become. I couldn't be prouder of that boy.

Axe+hand= bloody mess

Yesterday the hubby was chopping firewood, using an axe as a hatchet and not wearing his gloves like he usually does. So, he managed to chop directly into his palm. This picture was taken today, 24 hours later, after it had been bandaged and washed. It was also immediately after he took a shower, so it was cleaned of all the dried blood and goop. It is a miracle that this is all the damage he did. It needed stitches, but he refused to let me take him to the doctor, instead preferring to "just slap some bandaids on it." Today I convinced him to at least put the liquid bandage on to seal it. I told him it was not going to heal correctly or as quickly because of the lack of stitches, and he said he didn't care because it would be a cool scar....men.

'Cuz you've gotta have friends!

Tonight I got to have a "girls night" with a group of girlfriends. It's amazing how a group of gabbing ladies, food, and friendship can make any night great. Tonight we made feather headbands and clips, and had yummy food. We celebrated my dear friend's birthday, and had a fantastic time.

Starry Night

The other day, the boy told me he wanted to move to outer space. I said I didn't want to go to outer space, to which he replied "Well...I do!" So today we bought him glow in the dark stars for his bedroom. I think it is a right of passage. Every little boy has glow in the dark stars in his room at some point. My boy is a miracle to me, because he exceeds my expectations every day. He is so smart and clever. He is articulate (for a 2 year old) and has such an imagination.

For FHE we talked about how to take care of a new baby, and made a paper chain count down to baby sister.

LIke Father, like son

My hubby has taken to building a fire every night. It does add to warmth (though we have central heating,) but mostly it is for the atmosphere. Nothing is cozier than snuggling under a blanket next to the fire. Today, my husband was standing in front of the fire and the boy came up to snuggle. It warms my heart to see how the boy is learning and growing everyday. He makes my heart happy every minute. Today he bore his testimony for the first time (he'll be 3 in Feb.) He said "I love my mommy. I love my daddy. I love Jesus. Amen." Perfect, little man.

Silliness

I love that we can be silly together. I cute this hair on my Cricut WAAAAAAY too big by accident. My completely shaved bald hubby decided to tape it to his head, which cracked the boy and I up so much we had to try it too. What a wonderful thing, that we can take something so simple and make it a family play date!

Big shoes

Today I am marveling in the miracle that is my family. I have the hardest working husband. He works two jobs, serves in the church, plays constantly with our son, and still makes time for me. My son is the cutest and smartest almost three year old around. It makes me so happy to see them together. This picture was taken today while the boy was sitting on Daddy's lap playing PS3 together. He wants to be just like Daddy. Those are some mighty BIG shoes to fill!

My resolution

I am not a great resolution keeper. But, I do want to make my mark, and have something to show my children. So, this year, I have decided to keep a photo journal of the things that make my life extraordinary every day. I will try to update this every day, or at least have a photo for every day, even if it is posted once a week! I invite you to share this journey with me, as I attempt to capture a miracle everyday.
