Halloween Sunday
Today, it was fun to dress up in our matching Halloween church clothes (I know, that is a funny concept, Halloween church clothes!) I made the boys ties, baby girl's dress and headband, and my flower pins out of the same material, and we wore orange and black. We got quite a few compliments, and got to have a little family fun for church. Heard some great speakers at Stake Conference, then got to have some friends and the Elders over for dinner. Dinner was really good and pumpkin themed. Black bean pumpkin chili, and rice and beef pilaf cooked inside a whole pumpkin. The pumpkin is a Halloween tradition for our friends that they shared with us, which we are going to adopt. It was really tasty, and really fun. We only got one little trick or treater though, which was a bummer for the boy; he really wanted to pass out candy.

Down the rabbit hole
Tonight was the "Harvest festival" at church. It was really clever. Instead of trunk or treat, they decorated all the classrooms like front doors and had people handing out candy. There were games and crafts, as well as a pumpkin carving contest. Unfortunately the only picture someone took of all of us is fuzzy, but I love this one I got of baby girl and daddy. I imagine it is just the way Alice would look at the Mad Hatter!

I found it!
The boy picked out the perfect pumpkin. He was so excited! We had to replace the ones we carved, the weather has been so weird lately, hot cold hot cold, that they just fell apart. The boy is really stoked for Halloween this year. I think this is the first year he really "gets" it. Every day he asks if it is Halloween night yet.

Mummy loves me...even when I'm a monster.
Baby girl must be getting ready to grow some teeth and/or going through a growth spurt. She has gone from being the easiest, quietest baby to shrieking like a banshee and demanding food non stop. She has this high pitched scream that makes my eardrums want to bleed. This picture was taken just after one of those shrieks. Her shirt says "Mummy loves me," and even when she is screaming and crying and forcing us to bend to her tyrannical will...it is still true. Momma loves her little monster!

Battle of the berries!
The boy has been talking about the berry battle since last year's. The berry battle is held at a friend of ours berry farm. At the end of the season, they invite everyone to come play, eat, and have fun on the farm. There is some serious competition amongst the vines, a lot of throwing berries, and eating berries, everyone gets COVERED in smooshed berries. Daddy and the boy went this year, while Momma and baby girl stayed home and snuggled. The boys came home all purple and told us all about the fun!

A very merry unbirthday!
Tonight we had a combined 30th birthday party for Daddy and Mommy. We had people come in their costumes, and we ate and visited and the kids played and watched Halloween movies. It was nice to hang out with our friends and visit. Our family had an "Alice in Wonderland" theme for our costumes. The boy picked what we would all be, and I made all of our costumes. I think they turned out pretty cute!

Glow stick dance party
The boy loves glow sticks. And he loves to dance. And he loves to dance with glow sticks. He puts on a whole show. It is hilarious and sweet. He is such a cute, fun kid. He is very funny and imaginative. Speaking of which, the other day he was looking in his fish tank and said "I need a new crab." I was thinking it had died, but asked "What's wrong with your crab?" To which he said "This one says strange things."

She flies through the air with the greatest of ease!
What is it about Daddies throwing babies in the air? It terrifies Mommas but the babies seem to love it. it was super difficult to get a good picture of this acrobatic feat in such poor light, but you get the general idea! Baby girl LOVES it! It cracks me up that she kept sucking her thumb throughout the fun. She was giggling and grinning, but that thumb stayed put!

Rare beauty
I would estimate that I have actually seen in person about 3 dragonflies in my entire lifetime. So to me, a dragonfly sighting is rare. Normally I hate flying bugs (well, to be honest, all bugs!) but dragonflies fascinate me for some reason. This one let me get practically right on top of it before it flew away. "I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world...Heavenly Father created for me!"

Family Portraits
We got some great fall family portraits last night at the pumpkin patch. There are a lot more great ones, but I can't fit them all on here! You can see them all on my Facebook page.

Turtle power!
The boy has discovered the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and he LOVES them! He absolutely HAD to have a blue mask like Leo and wore it, while eating pizza, to watch the movie. We have watched all 3 live action movies and the cartoon movie about 10 times this past week. He is so adorable. It cracks me up, because I remember doing the same thing 25 years ago!

Berry careful
The boy cracks me up. He is always asking to hold baby sister. And he tells me funny things like "I'll be berry careful," or "I want to be a good boy." He is such a good big brother. He will talk to baby sister or sing to her. If she is crying, he almost always says "Don't cry..I'm your big brother." He makes me so proud. Oh, and today he told me that he loves being a big brother because he can protect baby sister and beat up the bad guys.

So small!
Baby girl looks so cute in this outfit. It was big brother's when he was her age. We have lots of picture of him wearing it. It makes me happy and sad to see her wearing it. On a side note, whenever I say "how big is baby? SOOOO big!" Big brother automatically, from wherever he is in the house, says "So small!!" He is very adamant about it. Like it insults him for me to say baby girl is big.

Pumpkin time!
One of our favorite things to do is carve pumpkins for Halloween. The boy wanted a classic jack o'lantern...the scarier the better. He wanted sharp scary teeth. Daddy and he did that one. Momma and baby girl did a spider and a web. We have a few more pumpkins to carve, but we just did two for tonight. They turned out pretty cute!!

A community of caring
I am the fundraising coordinator for a local non profit that emphasizes the importance of early childhood learning. Tonight was our annual fundraiser, and I really liked this table. One of our banners is in the back, and then there was an edible display of local produce. I just thought it was very elegant and local at the same time. It's amazing how much better food tastes when it was picked just hours earlier! Anyway, we did pretty good at our fundraiser. Not as good as last year, but still impressive.

Superstar!
Baby girl got this toy from a friend of ours whose daughter had outgrown it. It plays music, lights up, has lots of things to push, sings songs. She is in LOVE. She will sit in front of it for a long time, looking in the mirror and "dancing" to the music. If she's tired she will lie on the floor in front of it and push the buttons with her feet. This is the first toy she's really "played" with. It is adorable to watch and makes me so proud to see her growing and learning. It also makes me sad that every day she is less and less babyish. I am so happy to be a momma!

Momma is 30!
The boy has had the hardest time keeping his presents secret this week. He made me a holder for my glasses and a picture of flowers. He has been trying to tell me the about the flowers for several days. He was so excited that he actually opened the presents....and blew out the candles. Funny kid. Baby girl ate her green beans, but she was eyeing the "up down pine cone cake," as the boy calls it!!
