The misadventures of Cap'n Arr and the Friend ship
We went to a pirate show at the library today. It was cute and silly. The boy loved it but was really bummed that they did not pick him to go up onstage. Afterwards though, the took a picture with him. All day long the boy sang "A pirate, a pirate, a pirate says 'Arrrrrr!' " And he was running around hiding behind things and tip toeing around. He told me he was a super spy pirate.

Potty trained!
The boy is potty trained! Yay! Applause and cheers! He has not had an accident in over 20 days. He earned all the quarters to buy his pillow pet, whom he named "Smiley." He has carried it around all day, even to the grocery store. We are so proud of our little guy, he is growing up so quickly! But it melts my heart that he is not too grown up to be completely in love with his new stuffed animal!

Camping!
Our first camping trip since baby girl was born! We went with a bunch of families from our ward. We had a lot of fun, and baby girl did fine. The boy got over his aversion to peeing outside, which made for some interesting "potty" trips! We all got bug bitten but other than that, we had a really good time.

Fun in the sun
The boy finally got to break out the Buzz Lightyear slip and slide. We had a beautiful, warm (70 degrees!) day and he wanted to try out his new toy. He had a lot of fun, even though the water was COLD. He ran through the sprinkler, slipped and slided his way around the yard, even managed to get Daddy a little wet! What a fun day.

A boy's eye view
Apparently, the boy got a hold of my camera while riding in the back of the cart. He took a few pictures, including EXTREME close ups of his eyes and nose, but these amused me. It makes me think about what he looks at from back there. He LOVES his new "running" shoes and that he took a picture of them amuses me.

Happy Father's Day!
Daddy got a tie (of course) and a candy card we made him. He also got a special breakfast and one of his favorite dinners, pot roast. We had a good day at church, very good lessons and special presentations for the Daddys. Nana (Daddy's mom) came for dinner, and we had a good time. The kids adore their Daddy. He is such a kind, loving, playful, and spiritual man. He is a good provider, a fun pal, and a supportive husband. We are lucky he is our Daddy.

Wonka wonka wonka!
The boy has discovered that he enjoys making people laugh. He makes funny faces, does prat falls, and tells "jokes." I say "jokes" (picturing air quotes here) and not jokes because the punchline often leaves you confused and him giggling hysterically. Eventually Daddy or I will say the joke again and we will just laugh at the absurdity of it. For example:
Boy : "knock knock"
Daddy: "who's there?"
Boy: "food"
Daddy: "food who?"
Boy: "pasta!"
Giggle giggle giggle. Admit it, you think it's kind of funny.

"That'd be awesome!"
The boy asked me if he could have a piece of gum. Before I could answer he said "Please, Momma that would be awesome!" How do you say no to that? He has never had gum before, so we talked about how you don't swallow it, and when you are done you give it to Momma to throw away. He chewed it for about 2 minutes, tried to blow a bubble, and then said it was "too weird" and gave it to me. It was pretty cute to watch.

Hair!
"Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen
Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer" So, my last haircut was over 2 years ago. It was traumatic. I've not even had a trim since. This is the longest my hair has ever been. When it's curled tighter it looks a little shorter, but here I tried to flatten it a bit to see how long it really is. Time to cut it? I don't know if I could bear another bad hair cut. I think I will leave it for now. It doesn't look frazzled or yucky at the ends, so maybe I have some time before I NEED a cut. Who would have thought a simple hair cut would cause such a problem?!

Safety First
Someone gave us this helmet, and the boy LOVES it. He wore it all day, not just to ride his tricycle. I told him I was glad he was being safe and he looked at me like that was a ridiculous thing to say. I then asked why he was wearing the helmet and he said it was to keep his hair from getting messed up! =) Silly kid.

Animal Lover
My little guy loves animals of all sizes. He went with me visiting teaching and the kids there (all 7 of them!) just adore him. They were letting him hold their pets which included this little albino mouse. He thought it was the coolest thing. He wants a pet very badly, but until he can actually take care of it, he is sadly out of luck!

Close encounters of the "furred" kind!
Our town has an animal park where llamas, yaks, zebras, elk, bison and other animals will walk right up to your car and stick their head in to get slices of bread. We have gone twice now and the boy LOVES it. He was petting the yaks and llamas. He loved seeing the bears perform for their bread (the bears are behind electric fences, you have to throw the bread to them.) It was really fun, and a GORGEOUS day for a trip through the farm!

Endearing
Baby girl has discovered her thumb. She can't always manage to get it into her mouth without help though! It is quite sweet and endearing to me. The boy wasn't a thumb sucker and wouldn't take binkies, but little sister is and does. I don't want the habit to continue into her toddler years, but as such a teeny baby I think it is really cute.

E-I-E-I-O
The boy was way excited when our friend arrived on his tractor to mow our grass. As soon as the boy saw him he started singing "E-I-E-I-O" over and over and OVER. He got to sit in the driver's seat and he thought that was pretty cool.
On an unrelated note, the boy keeps yelling "there's an impostor running around!" Too funny.

Planting a garden is fun to do, fun to do, to do, to do!
We have never planted a garden before ....I know bad!! We have always had black thumbs, but we really wanted to try to grow something we could actually eat. So, we decided to do a container garden. We have tomatoes, jalapenos, green bell peppers, cilantro, chives, and zucchini. One advantage to doing it this way is we can move the tomatoes into the sun, wherever it might be. I am excited to see if we can grown anything. Next year we will do a real garden if we can!

Self Portrait
I just thought my hair looked cute. I had it down with a braid bobby pinned across to keep it out of my face, and when I got home from church I put it up into two messy pigtails. The boy told me my hair was "crazy silly." I like it, it reminds me of my personality, if that makes sense to any one but me.

Happy Birthday Nana!
We got to help Nana celebrate her birthday today. She and the boy hung out all morning, then the boy, baby girl, and I all took her out to lunch at our favorite local restaurant. We gave her a locket with our pictures in it, and a card the boy painted and drew. It was a GORGEOUS day outside, sunny and warm with no hint of rain. Couldn't have asked for a better day!

Cold hard cash
Ok, so we've got the boy completely potty trained WHEN we are at home and he is not wearing any pants. (Hey, it's a step...) But, I have found the only bribe...a hem, incentive...that works for when we are away from home, or when he has any kind of heinie covering on. Cold hard cash...that is the only thing that works. He gets 1 quarter for peeing in the potty, 2 quarters for "number two." BUT, if he has an accident (meaning he goes in his pants with out even trying to make it to the potty) he gets either one or two quarters taken away. He wants a lady bug "Pillow Pet" (gee thanks Nickelodeon commercials!) so he is saving his monies to buy one. Capitalism at it's best. Whatever works at this point is ok by me. We'll see if it works. Today he really wanted to earn to quarters so he was sitting on the potty and saying "Come on (his name.) Push, try really hard.!" Nothing like a little pep talk to get things, ummm moving.
