Big brother
The boy LOVES being a big brother. He was so excited when I told him that is what his pajama shirt said. He jumped up on the couch and did this little dance. He is so sweet and tender with baby sister. More so than I would have thought he could be. I love my boy and I love baby girl and I am amazed that they love me too. I think Charles Dickens said it best... "It is not a slight thing when they, who are so fresh from God, love us."

"I'm so sad"
Today the boy told me he was "so sad" because all the grandparents were gone. It was sweet, and he made me tear up because he was so plainly upset about the fact that they all left. But, I am grateful to my family for making time to travel all this way for us. I am so happy that my children get to spend time with their extended family and that the family makes an effort to get to know my children. The boy had a lot of fun with Poppa (pictured,) Grammy and Opa, and Great Grandma and Grandpa Bob. Luckily, Nana lives close and can fill that need for grandparent hugs!

Grandparents make life better!
Baby girl got to meet a lot of grand parents this week. Nana (who lives here in town), Grammy and Opa (who came from California,) Poppa (who came from California,) and Great Grandma Bob (who came from Idaho) are in these pictures (don't have a picture of her w/Great Grandpa Bob because he was sick and couldn't hold her, but she met him too.) The only grandparents she hasn't met is Gran, who couldn't come with Poppa, and Grandma Lou who is not well enough to travel. What a lucky girl!

Baby Blessing
Today we got to bless our baby girl. Family drove and flew from hundreds or thousands of miles to be there, and friends from several different wards came to show their love for us and for baby sister. Daddy gave a very powerful blessing and afterwards friends and family gathered at our home to eat cake and snuggle with the baby. It was a very spiritual, wonderful day.

Bittersweet
I am not really sure if I would say today was a good day.We got to attend the baptism of my sweet little 8 year old cousin, which was wonderful. He bore his simple, pure testimony saying he knows the church is true and that he loves his family.
But, today we also had to attend the funeral of our dear friend. Both were held in our ward's meeting house. I know that my friend's body is healthy and whole. He is no longer in pain, and he is with his Heavenly Father. But, I miss him. I miss his smiling face and the way he made me laugh. (He was a stand up comedian.)
So, my cousin's baptism on this sad day was, to me, like when you can see individual rays of sunlight shining through gray storm clouds. A good day? On second thought, it really was a good day. Rest in peace, Jay. I will see you again my friend. Until then, I know you are making all the angels laugh.

Flutterby
I hate flying bugs. Flying bugs can land on me. This includes butterflies, even though they may look pretty. This stupid butterfly was in our house today. I made my hubby catch it and take it outside. Makes me wonder if the boy was really "imaginating" butterflies the other day when he was chasing them through the house!

I love the pacific northwest
To quote my friend, Marie, "this is a magical place." I love that I can look in my backyard and see eagles nests. I couldn't get a good picture of the nest, but this was pretty cool looking. I love that we can follow rainbows to the beach and see both ends touching the water. I love that even in the dead of winter, every where I look is green. I love that I can go to the beach and collect shells, or go to the snow in Olympic National Park, and I love that both of those places are visible from my house. We are so lucky to live here.

Big shoes to fill
The boy loves his baby sister so much. He asks to hold her everyday. He was telling me how baby sister's feet look just like his and wanted me to take a picture. I think it is so sweet that they both curled their toes just as I took the picture. The boy is a good big brother and baby sister is a lucky girl to have him.

Pretty girl
Baby sister is such a pretty girl. She has such personality already, and makes the cutest faces. It's hard to believe she is only 3 days old today. It seems like she has always been my baby. The boy is so in love with her. Every day he asks to hold her, gives her kisses, and talks to her. And, every day he sings her "happy birthday."

Last day as a family of 3
Today, we are celebrating our last day of being a family of 3, and preparing to become a family of 4. Daddy, the Boy and I took some pictures and are going out for dinner and a movie. We bought the boy a few presents to celebrate him becoming the big brother, and we bought some groceries for the next few days while the boy is home alone with Nana. It's been a lovely day, and I *think* we are prepared for baby sister's arrival tomorrow. (I will try to post a pic, not sure if the hospital has wi-fi.)

So grown up
When did my baby turn into such a big kid? His Daddy gave him this remote control truck and within minutes the boy had it jumping over ramps, doing wheelies in the driveway, and 4X4'ing across the grass. The boy was so in love with his new toy that after we parked it (in the garage!) he kept asking to go check on it. I can't believe he is so grown up.

Erin go braugh!
Ok, so today is not TECHNICALLY St. Patrick's day...but we will be a little busy that day, so we had corned beef, cabbage, potatoes , and carrots for dinner tonight. For dessert I made these cute cupcakes. They were chocolate with mint cream cheese frosting. We had the missionaries and Nana over and we celebrated. It was really fun and dinner was so very tasty. Even the boy loved it. It's really nice to be able to share special days with those who we love and those who serve the Lord.

Gettin' a bit short
In early January we made a paper chain countdown to baby sister. When the boy tore off another ring tonight before bed, he told me our chain was "gettin' a bit short." (Everything lately is a "bit"; dinner was a "bit" hot, today was a "bit" sunny....I don't know where he gets these things.) He was very excited about tearing off the 4. I told him that means that when he gets up tomorrow, there are only 3 more sleeps till baby sister will be here. He lately has become very concerned about how they get baby sister out of my belly. He keeps asking me if they are going to use a knife. Since I am having a c-section and they will in fact be using a knife, I don't want to lie to him, but I don't want him to be concerned about it either. I have been trying very hard to avoid directly saying yes or no, and instead telling him the doctors know how to do it and not to worry. Looks like baby sister is going to stick to her planned date and come on St. Patrick's day!

Fighting Pirates is exhausting!
The Boy was "imaginating" that he was fighting pirates. He is a two handed swashbuckler. He did this for about 40 minutes before he fell down where he stood and took a rest. I asked him if he wanted to get up and lay on the couch and he said "no, i just need a little rest. The baby is kicking." LOL!!!

Memories....one great lady
This photo was not taken today. It was actually taken about 6 years ago...I found a one time use camera lying around and decided to have it developed. This is a picture of my grandmother (who died last year), my mom, my sister, my niece, and me. It made me really happy to see these pictures today. So, today that was my miracle.

Box time!
As far as the boy is concerned, the best thing about baby sister (so far) is that all her stuff comes in big boxes. Boxes=toys. He climbed into the playpen box which was really narrow, and closed the flaps. I found him in there asleep about 20 minutes later. Here he is playing in the stroller/car seat box, which has a bit more room. He took all the boxes and built a fort. He then destroyed the fort by jumping on it from the coffee table. What a silly boy!

Look what I did!
My hubby is gone for the weekend for his Army drill, so I had to find a way to occupy my time....So I built all the baby stuff. I put together the play pen, high chair, swing, and stroller. Building stuff is usually Daddy's job, so I was quite proud of myself. The boy "helped." We had a fun time building and seeing things put together. Then, the boy and I went on a date, swimming and dinner at Mickey D's. =)

Sidewalk art
The boy was given sidewalk chalk at my baby shower (or bath party.) He discovered it today and gave me such a cute puppy dog look that I let him open them. He LOVED drawing all over the sidewalk. He used every single chalk in the box and made drawings in each color, telling me all about them as he went. He was too stinkin' cute out there coloring the sidewalk. He wasn't wearing shoes and he thought it was hilarious to jump on the chalk drawings and see the chalk dust go everywhere. It was a fun way to spend the afternoon.

The boy's two favorite things...(this week)
1. Bendaroos
2. Snowmen
Snowmen have been his favorite since he was just a tiny squirt, but Bendaroos are his new obsession. He saw commercials for them while watching "The Magic Schoolbus" on Discovery Kids, and has been begging for them since. It's so cute to hear him say "Bendaroos." Daddy made him this snowman, which the boy played with for a few minutes, before smushing him "small small small." Then he HAD to watch Frosty the Snowman several times. Too bad we didn't get a flake of snow this year. =(

I'm so dizzy....my head is spinning...
The boy finds it incredibly fun to spin spin spin until he is dizzy and falling down. I love the look on his little buddy's face when he fell. Priceless. (No, I still haven't cleaned up from the shower. It's difficult with a leg that is persistently numb, a baby lying sideways across your ribs, and a 3 year old. It will get picked up soon. Or not...!)
