And I won't forget the men who died...

Today is Memorial Day. It doesn't seem quite appropriate to say "Happy" Memorial Day...we got a group of our dear friends together for a BBQ, then we had a FHE about the meaning of Memorial Day. At the end of FHE we all wrote letters to send to soldiers. It was a good day, and though the kids were more excited about writing/coloring than actually listening to the lesson, I think some of the meaning got through to them. I didn't get any pictures of the BBQ, but I did get one after of baby girl being cute.

I love this place

Can you imagine a more perfect place to live? I seriously love our little town. Right now there are a lot of families leaving our ward because their company is moving to Utah, and I am sad for them. Sad that they are leaving and I will miss them of course, but also sad that they have to leave this place behind. If the situation ever came up that we had to take our family and move away, I would do it if that was what was right, but I would be so sad to leave. This is my hometown now. Both our kids were born here. It is such a beautiful wonderful place.

Mommy you did it!

Today, I decided to finally try cutting the boy's hair myself. I figured better to learn now, when he won't care if I make mistakes! I think it turned out ok. Of course, I haven't seen it dry yet. He wouldn't sit still because the clippers tickled, then when I was using scissors on top he wanted to look at all the birds and trees. BUT all in all he's not bald, there was no blood (or tears) shed, and his hair is not so shaggy.

SUCCESS!!

The boy peepee'd in the potty 3 times so far today! FINALLY. We tried the wearing no pants at all method, and he has not had an accident since. We'll see how it goes, but this is the first time he's ever used the potty so I am pretty happy. Also, we bought him some Pull Ups to try to get away from "diapers" completely, and he picked out the princess kind. So, he is wearing bright pink "big boy" underwear!! Too funny.

I get by with a little help from my friends!

The boy LOVES the missionaries. He gets so excited when they come for dinner, when we see them on Sunday, when we see them out in town...He wants to sit by them, call them on the phone, and when they are here, they are expected to work for their dinner by playing with the boy. Here he is getting a ride because he was "too tired" from all the playing....what a little con artist. The missionaries are always good sports about it, and spend a lot of time with him. Their love is apparent in their actions, and the way they treat my little man. I hope he grows up to be just like them!

Prepared for anything!

It never hurts to be prepared for any type of weather. Especially around here. For example, today the boy chose to wear snow boots and sunglasses. Snow boots because he said if he wears them it will snow, and sunglasses (even though it poured all day) "in case that lazy sun gets out of bed." What a clever kid.

Rubber ducky you're the one

Both of the kids needed a bath, and I was short on time and patience. So, for the first time, they got put in together. They did fine. Baby girl is FINALLY over her irrational hatred of water. Seriously, you would think she is half cat. And the boy was very careful not to splash her. They look too cute together.

3 year old logic

A conversation with the boy after he got a tube of lipstick out of my bathroom.
Boy: "Momma you put this on you lips?"
Me: "No thank you, my lips don't need it just now."
Boy: "Baby put it on her lips?"
Me: "No, she won't need that on her lips for several years. Please go put that away."
Boy: "Ok."
About 20 minutes later the boy comes running out looking like this.
Me: "Excuse me, what do you think you are doing?"
Boy: "Momma, my lips need it right now!"

I love the flower girl

Flowers in her hair, Flowers everywhere. I love the flower girl, Oh, I don't know just why. She simply caught my eye.I love the flower girl, She seemed so sweet and kind. She crept into my mind. (I Love the Flower Girl the Cowsills)

Baby girl looks so sweet with that huge flower in her hair. It's almost as big as her head, and she looks so sweet and dainty in it. She looked so cute at church today, her dress has a yellow bumble bee on it. We are so lucky she came to be in our family.

Joy, thy name is fire truck!

My friend came over to help me work on a project, and she brought this gift for the boy. A fire truck with lights and sirens, and extendable ladders. He is in heaven. He LOVES it. It was quite unexpected, but made his day. Thanks friend for the gift!

Spring is springing!

It is finally starting to feel like spring. We have had the craziest weather, experiencing all four seasons in one day several times a week. The poor plants must be so confused. But, we have started to see blossoms blossoming, chicks hatching, and blue skies. I love my adopted home town. I love that my kids were born here. I can't imagine a better place to be.

Daddy's girl

Baby Girl had her 2 month check up today. Here's how she measures up;
Height 24 1/8 inches tall 90th percentile
Weight 12 lbs 13 oz 95th percentile
Head 15 1/4 50th percentile

She is growing so fast! She also had to have her first 3 shots today which of course she hated, but she got over quickly.

And now a funny quote from the boy:
We were talking about all the reasons he needs to use the potty and stop wearing diapers. Mommy made several points, like "you can't go to school until you start using the potty," and "Big boys use the potty not diapers," and "you can't wear Superman underwear until you stop peeing in your diapers." The boy considered all this, and then asked "If I pee on Superman, will he beat up my wiener?" Glad to see he knows what is important!

Do a happy dance!

Some days you gotta dance! The boy was singing "shake shake shake, shake shake shake, shake your booty" whilst doing this little dance. Too cute!

Worst...hider...EVER!!

Today we spent about an hour playing Hide and Seek.  It was really fun.  The boy was really creative in his hiding places.  Daddy was not!  LoL  I guess it's hard to hide when you are 6'6".

When some bunny loves you...

The boy got to hold and pet some bunnies, chicks, and a kid goat today.  He liked them all, but his FAVORITE was the bunnies.  This one in particular. He kissed it and rubbed it on his cheek.  Everyone thought he was so cute.  Hmmmm do I sense a pet in his future?  We'll see.  For now he was content to love on it and then let it go home.  What a cute boy!

Smiley girl

Baby girl was snuggled in my lap just smiling away.  It was too cute.  The only thing I could reach was my cell phone, so it is not the greatest quality photo.  But baby girl is too cute for it to matter much.

Gone fishin'

Daddy, Nana, and I took the boy to the park
today to the fishing derby.  It is a free event for kids 14 and under to fish.  There is a pond at the park that is stocked with trout, and a separate fishing pool for toddlers.  The boy LOVED standing there with the pole, he LOVED when he felt the tug of a bite...however he did not love the fish flopping around out of the water quite so much.  He would not hold the fish, or even stand next to it.  He let Daddy hold it next to him if Momma held him to keep him safe.  But, he ended up catching two fish.  We will be eating them for dinner after church tomorrow.  Baby girl slept through the whole thing in her stroller, blissfully unaware of the mortal danger we were all in from the flopping fish!

First party

Today, baby girl got to go to her first birthday party.  It was for my cousin, which would be the kids' second cousin, who turned 5.  The food was a big hit with the boy, pizza and ice cream.  Baby girl got to be oohed and aahed over.  It was a fun time!

Tiny dancer

Baby girl is getting so big. I know I will treasure these memories when I look back on them. She has such personality already! She has such teeny feet compared to big brother.  He is already so protective of her, I know he will continue to be as they grow up together.

Potato derby

The boy went to mutual with Daddy tonight and participated in the potato derby. He wanted his "car" to look like a rabbit, so I call it the "Spudwagen." He carved it himself, Daddy helped with the face, and he came in 2nd place over all! SOME of the young men claimed it wasn't "fair," but I think they were just mad because the boy got 2nd and a girl from young women got 1st. I'm very proud of my little potato racer!

Lunch time

Is there any thing better than a huge Costco hot dog? Especially when you are 3? I love that we can all eat lunch for under $5 total. The boy loves that his hot dog is as long as his arm. He was very excited to have "yellow mustard." I am not quite sure what color he thought it was before. I love that just eating lunch is fun.

Joy

The boy loves to swing. He has the biggest smile when he is up in the air. I love to push him and see the joy across his face as he zooms through the sky. I hope he always keeps that light heartedness.

Happy Mother's Day!

For Mother's day, the boy (with help from Daddy) made me a custom jacket to wear. It goes with everything, and it is a one of a kind original! The boys made me breakfast, and all Daddy's morning meetings were cancelled, so I had help getting the kids ready for church. Then at church they gave the Mommy's potted marigolds, and the boy did a survey in nursery which I will post here. Tonight for dinner we are having tamales and spanish rice, and the missionaries and Nana are coming. Pretty good day!

Family Portraits

We had to take advantage of the GORGEOUS day we had today, so we headed out to take our first family portraits as a family of 4. I posed every one and set the timer, then ran to get into the picture. I think they all turned out pretty well, but these are my favorites.

First roller coaster ride

We went to the annual carnival and the boy rode his first roller coaster. I was a little stressed about letting him ride it alone, but he really wanted to. I was worried he would hate it or panic and be upset, but he LOVED it. He grinned the entire time, and his eyes were wide as saucers. It was so fun to see him so excited. I wish I could have gotten a closer picture, but you'll have to trust me, the boy was grinning ear to ear!

Blossoms and babies

I took my babies to the park for a picnic, and there was a beautiful blooming cherry tree. I got some good pictures of the kidlets. I had a hard time picking my favorites!

Pink Elephants on Parade!

Baby girl got this adorable fuzzy pink elephant from a friend today. The boy insisted baby sister needed to hold it. She wasn't interested. The boy settled for setting it next to her. It is really a cute elephant. The fuzzies make it look like a pink wooly mammoth. We are lucky to have friends who give our kids such nice presents!

Sad to say goodbye

Our good friends are moving back to Utah, which makes me sad. Today we had a goodbye lunch at a WONDERFUL place in town, that had really really good GLUTEN FREE pizza. I will miss my friend, and the boy will miss his buddy. Hopefully they will be able to move back soon!

So big!

Momma: "Baby Sister is getting so big!"
Boy: "Yeah She's growing weeds."

Love and shadows

The boy has become obsessed with his shadow. He chases it, tries to step on it, waves to it. Today, before getting into the car to go to church, he came and held my hand and said "Look Momma, even our shadows are in love."

We all scream for ice cream

The boy and I were walking at a street fair downtown today when he announced that he wanted ice cream. We just happened to be very near a place that has good ice cream, cheap!, so I agreed. When he got inside, the boy scrutinized the selection for several minutes before I asked what his favorite flavor was. He said "Blue." I told him blue is not a flavor. He got very serious for a minute before nodding in agreement and saying "Ok...I want green." It was so funny that I just had to get him the green. (Which is pistachio by the way. In case you are wondering, I had purple...huckleberry.)
